Marcela Sánchez
Journalist and columnist Marcela Sánchez speaks to and about Latin America — and people across the hemisphere are listening. For more than seven years, Sánchez's Desde Washington columns appeared weekly in English and Spanish media throughout the Americas as syndicated by The Washington Post Writers Group. Today, Sánchez's column is carried by The New York Times Syndicate.

As one of Washington’s most prominent journalists covering Latin American affairs, Sánchez has interviewed nearly all Latin American presidents and most leading policy makers in Washington whose decisions directly impact the region.
Sánchez is familiar to television viewers inside and outside Washington from her frequent appearances on local, national and international broadcasts.
Before joining The Washington Post in 1997, she was Washington correspondent for two of the major daily newspapers in Colombia, El Espectador and El Tiempo, as well as Colombia's En Vivo and QAP television newscasts. During that time, she covered closely the tense years in U.S.-Colombia relations during the Samper administration and the start of the U.S. multi-billion support for Plan Colombia.

Marcela Sánchez's unique and thoughtful column has generated enthusiasm among readers hungry for analysis beyond the stereotypical.
Sánchez believes constructive opinion is more lasting than disparaging and thus challenges herself and readers to think about relationships, policies and developing news in ways that respect the struggle of individuals of all backgrounds.
Sánchez does not shy away from the important topics of our times, and has taken on issues as contentious as immigration, as unsettling as free trade, as controversial as faith in politics and as disturbing as youth gang violence.
